"Introduction"

"Thank you for purchasing what is, in my opinion, everything you need to start a successful flag football team! I believe every part of good football strategy begins and ends with knowing football defense. Whether you are making or running a defense, or whether you are making or running an offense you must know football defense. If you are concentrating on defenses, then you must know and understand defenses. If you are concentrating on offenses, then you must understand defenses so you know how to recognize and beat the opposition's defense. That is why I decided to study defenses inside and out.

My plan was to categorize and group all defenses into certain groups. Since there are infinite ways you can change a defense I wanted to group them together using the parts that matter. I wanted to group them by their weaknesses. That way, no matter what the defense does to change it, you can still beat that whole group of defenses the same way. To do this, I had to understand every thing possible that can be changed or manipulated in a defense. I learned that there are 4 different ways a defender can defend. He can defend a man, a zone, double an offensive player, or rush/blitz. Using this I grouped all defenses into 5 groups. So when I refer to a specific defense, I am referring to that group. This is all covered in the Knowing The Defenses section.

Every defense has a weakness and a strength. The only bad offensive play is a play that is run into the strength of a defense rather than the weakness. I realize that for the perfect offense, every play must run into the weakness of the defense. This requires knowing the defense before the play is called. I didn't want any play to be a gamble out of the huddle. So I nixed the whole huddle idea. I wanted the team to start at the line rather than a huddle, but this means that the offense would always have one formation. So, not only did I need to create plays to beat every defense, but they all had to start from the same formation.

I soon realized that I could beat every defense from the "basic twins formation". Since I wanted the team to start at the line rather than a huddle, I couldn't have more than one formation. So, every "formation" can be made from the original basic twins formation using only one player in motion. Plays that can't start from the basic twins formation just involve one motion before the snap. Therefore, I had to name the variations of the basic formation. That is covered in the Formations Section. The plays do not diagram the motion, so players must memorize when they must motion as well as the after snap logic.

So, the team starts at the line directly after the last play is stopped in the basic twins formation, the QB must call the play, and the players must know who needs to motion by the play call. But the QB must know how to call the play without a huddle. Obviously, since the team is at the line, the QB must call the plays in the form of an audible. The best audible systems I have found are included in the Audibles section. But, before I could worry about how the QB calls the plays, I needed to find a way for the QB to know what to call! There are two things the QB must know to call the correct play. He must know the defense the opposition is in, and he must know which plays are designed against the weakness of that defense. If the QB needs to know what defense the other team is putting against you, he must be able to read the defense. So, I needed to figure out an easy way to determine which defense (defensive group) the opposition is in by a few quick glances. After much experimentation, I think I've come up with the easiest and most effective defensive reads! This is covered in the How To Read Defenses section.

Once the QB reads and determines the defense, he must know which plays he can call. So, I had to create plays to combat every defense and defensive adjustment. The man coverage plays were easy to come up with, but the defense everyone has trouble with is the zone defense. That's why I decided to put zone plays in a totally different section. Those plays and the information on how to beat a zone defense is in the Beating a Zone Defense section. All the other plays are in the Headache Man Coverage Plays section. Now that I know how to beat the defenses, the QB still has to know all the plays the coach has prepared for the defense the opposition is showing. I thought this would be easiest if it were shown in a chart. So, I created a chart which includes the 5 defenses and room for any of these plays the coach decides to include. The plays that the coach includes must be memorized by the whole team so that when the QB calls them the team can interpret that information. Well, I figured that this chart would be the best place to display the "audible name" for the plays. After all, the QB and the team must know all the plays by that name because the plays are called at the line where the defense can hear. This chart is in the Headache Offense Audible Chart section.

The perfect offense must always capitalize on the defense's weakness, it must be quick so the team can operate as fast or as slow as needed, it must be a machine that works by itself without the coaches in-game involvement, it must operate quick enough that it can be used even as a 2-minute drill, and it must be consistent. Therefore, that's what I wanted to create in my offense. I achieved all of those things, so that is why I believe it to be the perfect flag football offense. There is no huddle, the team starts out on the line. The QB quickly reads the defense with 2 glances, and then audibles the correct play that is designed for that very defense. The team then carries out that play and every other play which capitalizes on the opposition's defense. Therefore, there are no gambles...just consistent yardage and ideally, a TD every drive."

The Offense includes everything you need to run it. It is approx. 80 pages long and includes 78 offensive plays! It includes:

1) The complete introduction...

2) Complete explanations of every defense and how to beat them...

3) Diagrams and the strategy behind the unique formation system...

4) Complete explanations and diagrams of all the formations...

5) 5 of the most common used audible systems...

6) How to read defenses...

7) My new simple system of reads to determine any defense at the line using only 2 quick glances...

8) Beating a zone defense, which includes the killer "headache play", 47 other plays to pulverize any zone defense, and the complete strategy guide to the concepts and methods used for beating a zone defense...

9) 8-man variations of the "headache play"...

10) 31 other plays to beat any man coverage defense and the strategy behind them...

11) The plays in this offense include QB reads...

12) The revolutionary Headache Offense Audible Chart which allows the QB to know exactly which plays to call against any defense, the basic plays used to beat every defense, room for the coaches additions, and room for numbering the plays for the audibles...

13) Names and diagrams for every pass pattern using my new simple naming method...

14) Detailed explanations of exactly how to run each route effectively, how to teach someone to run them, and drills for practicing them...

15) Diagram and explanation of my simple new method of naming formation positions and numbering system for easy play reading and substitutions...

16) The secrets of running the option correctly and effectively!

17) A bunch of other sections for specific types of leagues (including 4man, 8man no blocking, etc.) and other things I've created to help teams dominate (many of these sections are only in the Complete package). If you order the complete package you also receive my personal help. Many times coaches have needed something specific for their team because of their players or odd league rules. Because of this I am constantly adding new material to the package and it will take you a few days just to read all of it!

-----

This is my life's work! My goal here is to spread my knowledge of the game to others, help new coaches get started (and win!), and raise Flag Football to another level. That's why I am only charging 35 dollars for the Online Package. The package includes 8 computer animated visual aides of the main plays used in the Headache Offense so you can actually see how the plays are run (Must have powerpoint or the free powerpoint viewer available from Microsoft.com). There is absolutely no tacky side-binding used that makes it a hassle to Xerox!

Considering the average cost to enter a Tournament is around $500, 35 dollars isn't much...especially when it is the difference between losing it and winning it! You should more than make up for it in the first tournament. Besides, if you have everyone on your offense chip in that's only about $3 a person! And if the whole team chips in about $5 you can get the Complete Package!

All of the plays are based on 7-man, but the focus is on the strategy. I just used 7-man because it is the easiest to adapt from. So, it will help for any league; but, if you happen to be 7-man then it's pretty much plug and play. The info/strategy can be adapted for 4, 5, 6, 8, or 9-man.

This offense is my baby, and it is copyrighted to protect it. Please don't copy anything for anybody but the members of your team!!! I want you to be successful, so if anyone wants the information, please make sure the only way they can get it is through me and not somebody else's book. If you have any questions, e-mail me at
